Thought I'd open a new thread as I didnt want to take over AndrewM619s' 'Could Someone PLZ Make this mod?'discussion. While I'm at it, I want to say congratulations to both AndrewM619 and Andersen for eventually working things out and getting another mod to the masses. Well done guys, aint had a chance to try it as I've just reformatted and have yet to put MP2 back on.

Ok, onto the subject at hand. As suggested by Andersen in the above mentioned thread I'll state the changes I've made to the already excellent Punisher Mod created originally by Canada_dry and his team. Screenshots though, will have to wait 'til next week.

Before I go any further. If its all good to release this version to the public I want it to be made crystal clear that this is my own personal project based on what was already established in the first place. I'm not trying or wanting to usurp or damage in any way the integrity or insult the original Punisher mod or the guys who made it. I had no intention on releasing it at the beginning, it just started out as me wanting to change the menu screen, the rest just spiralled on from there until there was nothing else I could do.

Moving on, the Changes are as follows;


Max Payne:

-New face based on Tim Bradstreets' MAX series series cover model, Tom O'Brien (I had PM'ed maxben to see if he could create it but got no reply. So I made it).
-New modern skull based also on the MAX comics. (man, I HATED working around that tie).
-Ammo leg drops on both legs textured on from the belt to the lower thigh.
-Max now wears denim jeans instead of trousers.
-Glove texture removed. Just bare hands now. Hand skin colour matches face colour.
-Max now has/wears a kevlar vest texture, with the skull on top.


Mona Sax:

Redesign based on Jenny Cesare. A character that was briefly but brutally, in the comics.

-Blonde hair taken from Hooker in MP2 and placed on Mona.
-Large scar on forehead and one from left cheek over the nose to the right cheek. Scar also on chin.
-Punisher skull on the front of her shirt. (still not 100% on it)


Vlad:

-Face is scarred all over with multiple bruises to go with it. Based on the Jigsaw Character from the comics.


Sounds/Audio:

-All weapon firing sounds replaced with stereo 16bit 44kHz sound files.
-Desert Eagle, .408 Cheyenne Tactical, SSg 3000, Spas 12, Mossberg and M249 SAW firing sounds provided by my good friend and sound engineer, Mark XIII. Tweaked here and there by me with Adobe Audition.
-TWo reload sounds replaced (M4/M203 and M249 SAW). Both are in time and fit animations as far as I can tell.
-Enemy death sounds are now in place, some created originally by Mark XIII, some by myself and a couple from Counter-Strike Source.
-Enemy shout sounds are in (only a few). Originally from The Punisher by THQ for PC.
-Main menu music is also form Punisher by THQ for PC.
-One bullet-time music track comprising of four separate pieces originally, then mixed into one track. the tracks individually are;
A sound that reminds me of Doom 3, i.e. lots of inhuman screaming and howls. Provided by Mark XIII.
An ambient battlefield track from New World Order for PC.
The soundtrack that accompanies the Punishers special ability from the Punisher PC. Dischordant music, chatter, laughs and cries from Frank Castles memories/nightmares of his Wife and Children.
The music track that plays at the end of this sequence is a dramatic piece from The Punisher PC by Sonic Fuel.

The track doesn't kick in until ten seconds into bullet-time. The reason for this being that there are times when I wanted just take out one, two or three mopes in bullet-time but didn't want to hear the track play as soon as BT was initiated.


All menu screens replaced with artwork by Tim Bradstreet using various MAX Punisher comic covers.


Gameplay/Bullet-time:

-Removed the camera zooming in whilst shoot diving, the blur effect and orange screen tone. Widescreen bars are also removed. The slight speed up, slow down and speed up of the dive is still the same as it was in the original mod. Its possible to take out three guys with headshots using the Colt Anaconda before you the floor.

-All assault rifles fire at a faster rate as does the single Beretta. I wanted to fire the beretta almost as fast as I could hit the mouse button, the downside of it is that if I press it too fast it seems that two bullets fire at the same time, two firing sounds play at the same time as well, they phase over eachother. Its happens with other weapons as well.

-Bullets will travel through objects like doors, wooden posts, dividing wall panels (like the ones you see in offices) and such. Unfortunatley it travels through the stacks of cement bags found in the DMW map 'Scaffolding' (think thats the name). I dont know how to sort that out.


Miscellaneous:

Made the FAMAS skin more visible by using contrast/brightness.
Desert Eagle skin is now two-tone black and silver.
Upped the brightness of the Colt Anaconda skin to make it stand out a bit more.
Retextured the Colt .45s but didnt quite work out as planned.
When reloading Dual Berettas, Dual Desert Eagles and Dual Colt .45s in real time two magazines drop instead of one.
When reloading the M249 a Striker Magazine falls to the floor instead of an M4 mag.
M249 now has a 200 round belt.
Fixed the error in the weapon name of the .408 Cheyenne in the hud, it previously stated itself as .480 Cheyenne.
New weapon hud in lower right hand side of the screen.
new quit jokes based on the comics and whatever twisted things I could think of.


Bugs and things that didnt go to plan:


Playing as Mona using the M249 SAW and the M4/M203. When firing these weapons her aim is off kilter. She fires north east. It happened after I was sorting Maxs' aiming issues with these same 2 weapons. Max now aims them spot on, Mona doesn't. Don't know how to fix that.

Playing the level where Max gets a visit from Mona and she runs off leaving Max to get sniped. (can't remember the level name). Any way, if you start a fresh game from there, you wont have a weapon. Its not a problem though because as soon as you go out of the apartment after Mona you can get berettas off the goons she just freshly dropped. Or use CODER in the console.

Playing the level where Max saves Vlad's ass from Gognitti in his restaurant. If you start a fresh game frome there, you wont have a weapon. Once again you'll need CODER in the console or another command if you just want a weapon. If you play the level previous to that one, you'll start with whatever weapons you had in the that level.


Things I'd have liked to have added/altered:

-modelled ammo leg drops.
-reduced the size of some of the weapons. Specifically the Spas 12 and the M249 SAW as they're huge.
-more DMW maps but I dont know how to add them.

Things I'd have liked removed:

-Monas breasts. Now dont get me wrong, I've not got anything against them personally! But to go with the idea of Monas transformation into the Jenny Cesare character in the comics it would have been perfect. Her husband as you can guess, wasn't a nice guy.

I dont know how to model nor do I have the time to learn at the moment, or for the foreseeable future for that matter. My forte is texturing and I'am involved with a team of people revitalising a PC classic. This has been a side project thats been on the go while things have lulled. But if someone would like to assist in modelling the above items, that would be ace.


I think thats pretty much it. As you can see I've geared this more towards the comic roots of the character and away from the last movie that the original mod was based on.

Thanks for the comments so far guys, really appreciated.

Yeah, as it goes in the comics, Jenny's husband was the one who messed her up in a major way. After the Punisher took him out and about 100 other goons in the same night in an assault on a mob bosses' birthday party. Jenny, in a strange way fell for Frank. 'You set me free' she says to him, and the like.

I could have gone with another female character called O'Brian, but she was too much the typical ass kicking femme fatale, she would'nt have need any texturing or anything as her and Mona look similar enough to get away with not doing anything texture wise. I wanted to get away from that. Jenny just seemed more interesting.

Andersen, if you want to contribute mate that would be awesome! If thats the case i'll hold off releasing this for the time being.

Gotta get out of here as I've got stuff to do, take it easy people.

Awesome I love the punisher mod and always wanted someone to reskin Mona I never would have thought of Jenny...you're right now that I think about it all Mona needs is a hair change and she'd look pretty damn close to O'Brien. Anyways can't wait to see the screenshots for it. Take it easy mate.

WOW Looking good man really like the classic punisher look (is there no way to get rid of that tie?) and good job on Mona, she's looking just like Jenny now. A couple of questions though is it possible to get mona a trenchcoat as well over her regular red jacket, and would be possible to get a skin for Max with out his trench coat perhaps for when he's wounded? Anyways can't wait to check out this mod when it's done.

Thanks BladeDaywalker, really glad you like what you see! I know what you mean about a trenchcoat for Mona. I think a double mastectomy and that would finish the character off all round.

With regard to your questions they involve modelling mate, even if I was to learn the basics of it would put a good few months delay on this coming out as real life and other things take up most of my time. But, seeing as Andersen said he would like to model some items for this project, I can't see any reason why I shouldn't run it past him at least (unless of course you've read and replied to this Andersen before I got the chance to run it past you, lol). So you never know, eh?

As far as Maxs' tie goes, it was a complete nightmare to work around as its actually 2 textures on the front of that body armour. One goes on the shirt, the other on the tie itself. The hell of it was in the process of matching them both up. So yeah, the death of that tie would certainly get a cheer from me. See ya later.

i wish someone with your skin/model talent can make a nice jet li, chow yun fat mod. skins/models that actually resemble them.
